The Metrolina Spotter Group was formed in 2020, when the Charlotte Skywarn was disbanded, to fill the open gap of weather coverage for our area. Our goal is to help report severe weather to the National Weather Service using amateur radio and social media. We are not affiliated with any Amateur Radio Club or group. We are an independent group of SKYWARN®-experienced weather hobbyists that responded to the call to fulfill a need. Feel free to message us with any questions! All members of the Metrolina Spotter Group are experienced, trained SKYWARN® spotters. You do not have to be a trained spotter to report severe weather to us but the training is very beneficial.
We meet on 145.350 MHz K4ITL ham radio repeater (-offset, 82.5 Hz tone), every Tuesday evening at 8:00pm for the purpose of spotter training. We also meet on this frequency during severe weather. The backup repeater is 444.450 MHz W4CQ repeater (+offset, 82.5 Hz tone). And for the non-ham radio people or those that aren't near our Gastonia, NC repeater, we use the Zello walkie-talkie app and you can chat with us on there: https://zello.com/MetrolinaSpotters we would love to hear from you! We would like to thank the repeater owners for allowing us to use their machines. Please feel free to message our page for more info!
